Lipstick Surf Co. came to Peek Packaging with the idea to create a gift pack for all of the color combos of their surf, skate, and snow beanie line. The goal was to create a cost-effective design for a compact packaging concept that could show the varying beanie colors.
A Rolled End Tuck Top was the box style that was utilized for this project. This style does not have to be glued so there is a lot of flexibility in how thin the box can be in production. A RETT has a large lid that opens away from you on a hinge so it shows all the beanies at once, for a clean presentation. A window was utilized on the lid to show the beanie colors from the outside. This is a very common box style for a gift box like this.
Lipstick Surf Co. utilized the advancement of corrugated printing to create a cost-effective, one-color graphics, eco-friendly gift box. It may look simple to the naked eye, but corrugated material is porous and soaks up ink which makes printing images difficult. The images you see on this box are actually made up of small dots that vary in size. The way the dots are spaced out changes your eyes’ perception of the color density, so none of the dots are actually different shades of black. This is a relatively new development in the way we can print graphics directly onto a corrugated box. Printing images onto the box allows the customer to see the beanies on other people as a reference point to how they look. Something as simple as this can be the deciding factor in whether or not a customer will make a purchase, not to mention all while maintaining an eco friendly packaging concept.
The bigger impact of staying with a direct print on corrugated is the ability to recycle the box. A litho label is typically used to print photo-quality graphics. This label then gets laminated onto the box. Combining materials like this would make it so the box is no longer recyclable.
